FMCG

Fast moving consumer goods are defined as products with short shelf lives and short storage periods. Consumers don't think a lot when they make a selection about these products; they make their selection based on the brands. And these products are considered to be consumed continuously. Even though fast moving consumer goods are also known as Consumer Packed Goods, the term "Fast Moving Consumer Goods" is used more.

The main property of fast moving goods is the fact that the period between production and consumption shall be really short for these products. Even though, the products are grouped into sub-categories such as foods, beverages, cigarettes, personal care, cosmetics, cleaning; they are divided into segments such as cold chain products, raw vegetables and fruits, dry foods, cigarettes and alcoholic drinks, and others in terms of logistics. The logistics of the products in each segment is carried out with a different method. They may have significant differences.

The sector applies different sales methods to gain competitive advantage. Most of companies make production both for export and domestic markets. They export their goods through forwarder companies via sea, land or air transportation. And in domestic distribution, they carry their goods to the distributors with trucks and they benefit from the forwarding agents for this task. Inner city chain store or wholesaler sales are delegated to logistics companies. And the distribution of fast moving goods that requires one to one marketing is carried out with the own trucks of the company. By this way, the companies collect market information about their rivals, understand the preferences of the end user more and accelerate the payment collection process. The traveling vehicles are considered as portable warehouses.
